People owe approximately $552 million in fines to the City of Toronto. As first reported by BlogTO, many people have outstanding fines across the city. Whether you’ve forgotten about that parking ticket or deliberately put off paying another fine, you’re not the only one. While there are many in the same boat, it’s not a good idea to put off those fines. Those with unpaid tickets will receive a Notice of Fine with a due date by which they must pay out the total. Failure to do so may result in calls and visits from a collections agency, or the fine will be added to your municipal tax bill if you have a property.
Do you think the city should be more strict on due dates for fines? Or do you think the city should be more lenient, given the historical unemployment rate and closure of small businesses?
