Premier Doug Ford is under fire after accusing Indigenous NDP legislator Sol Mamakwa of “jumping the line” for the COVID-19 vaccine he received last month. Now, Ontario opposition politicians are demanding that Ford apologize. Mamakwa represents the northern Kiiwetinoong riding and revealed to the public last month that he received the vaccine in order to help combat vaccine hesitancy among the Indigenous population. Ford’s comments sparked a plug with Mamakwa who said Ford demonstrated a lack of respect for Indigenous people, their historic challenges in accessing healthcare and their leadership.
